Perhaps the basic reason that every child must have an education in music is that music is a part of the fabric of our society. The intrinsic value of music for each individual is widely recognized in the many cultures that make up American life - indeed, every human culture uses music to carry forward its ideas and ideals. The importance of music to our economy is without doubt. And the value of music in shaping individual abilities and character are evident. - MENC

At Rio Vista Middle School, we believe that the arts are an essential component of our educational system in developing the attitudes, characteristics, and intellectual capacities necessary for students to participate successfully in today's society and economy. The arts teach self-discipline, strengthen self-esteem, promote thinking skills and creativity, and encourage teamwork and cooperation.

Our program provides a rich curriculum with many choices to give students a chance to succeed in a variety of musical performance groups. We offer Beginning and Advanced Guitar, Beginning and Advanced Band, Jazz Band, and Drum Line.

It is the goal of the Rio Vista Music Program to provide the student with effective, direct instruction that will help each student reach his or her full potential as a musician and as a poised, respectful young adult.
